Featured Author [August 2017]

Hello again my avid readers! With the first of August comes the time to announce our eighth featured author of 2017!

For those who are unfamiliar, I have a monthly contest - one that includes the opportunity for all of my readers, both new and old, to be featured on my website, and multiple social media accounts!

That is why, with great pleasure, I am pleased to announce August's featured author, M!

For those who don't know, M is an author who's covered just about every popular genre on Wattpad!

Over first two Wattpad, she's written a total of 12 books, her most popular at the moment being her fan fiction, Always. Though this may be her most popular book, I would like to bring your attention back to her teen fiction novel, The Sound of Ice. This story follows Cameron Beckett, a gifted hockey player who begins to struggle with his sexuality. This book has been ranking in teen fiction all week, and is definitely worth they hype!

Upon getting to know M a little better, I can tell you that she knows how to write a novel that covers a wide range of topics, and one that gets down to look at real issues that people face every day. Her book, The Sound of Ice, shows us all that anyone can struggle with finding themselves, and M has illustrated that perfectly. Though M hasn't been writing on Wattpad for long, she knows that the passion a writer has for their work is what will put them above the rest, and that sometimes, spontaneity can bring the best story to light. Planning isn't always the way to go, and M has shown that going with the flow can help you create amazing stories.

I would like to give a personal congratulations to this amazing author! You will be featured both here, and on my Wattpad!

For anyone that would like to get to know her better, check out the interview on my Wattpad, or down below!

SS: How long have you been on Wattpad?

M: I created my Wattpad two years ago I think, but I didn’t start using it often until about six months ago.

SS: How long have you been writing?

M: I’ve been writing for awhile! The first story I remember writing I was four years old - I still have it actually, haha! I just never stopped since then.

SS: When did you first realize you wanted to write?

M: I’ve always wanted to write. I never really had a “realization” about it, it was just something I always wanted to do. When I got home from elementary school, I would immediately log on the family desktop and continue typing whatever story I was working on. So I’m not sure, exactly! I just knew that I loved it. :)

SS: What do you like to do when you're not writing?

M: When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading, to be honest! I also love to hang out with my friends, watch movies, and play volleyball.

SS: Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say when you do?

M: I love when my readers comment! Whether it’s just a reaction to something a character did, or feedback / a compliment about my writing, it’s such a good feeling! Wattpad is so great in that aspect, how it connects readers and writers, and I definitely think my writing has improved because of it.

SS: What do you think makes a good story?

M : What makes a good story… that’s tough! Honestly, if the writer is passionate and pours their soul into what they’re writing, I think that automatically makes a good book. (And good grammar. I’m a fan of good grammar!) Just writing what you want and not what you think other people want to read… that’s what elevates it above other books.

SS: How do you go about writing a chapter?

M: Haha, well as my readers know, I’m not too great of a planner. So I just open up a document and start typing! That’s about it. (This also leads to very rough first drafts. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do!)

SS: What gives you inspiration?

M: Support from readers, whether that’s reads, votes, comments, whatever, definitely inspires me to keep going. Besides that, other books! And my life in general.

SS: Who influences your writing?

M: In terms of other authors, Benjamin Alire Saenz has really influenced my writing. I absolutely love all of his books and his beautiful, personal style of writing is so different from anything else I’ve read.

SS: How would you describe yourself as a writer?

M: I’m still figuring out my personal writing style, but I try to keep my writing as real, raw, and simple as possible. I like to pull a lot from my life and just keep the characters relatable.

SS: What's your favorite genre to write under?

M: Definitely realistic fiction / teen fiction. Actually, that’s really all I’ve written. Even looking back on books I wrote when I was little, 2nd, 3rd grade, it was all realistic fiction. I’ve tried a little bit of low fantasy and fanfiction, but realistic fic is where it’s at for me! :)

SS: What's one of your favorite stories on Wattpad?

M: Oh my gosh, this is such a hard question! One of my current favs is “A Room for My Pretend Love” by @MeiSummer. I also love all of the poetry books by @microwavedpopcorn!

SS: And finally, what's one of your favorite stories you've written on Wattpad?

M: The teen fic book I’m working on currently, The Sound of Ice, is probably my favorite book of mine on Wattpad. Storms in the Desert a close second though, as it a teen fic book in poetry form and that style is super fun to write in!

There you have it - our lovely featured author for August of 2017! Check back next month for our next featured author!

And if you would like to enter, check out the contests book on my Wattpad profile for more information! The next featured author could be you...
