The Featured List - Fall 18'

Welcome one and all to one of my favorite times of the season - and say hello to our official Shay Writes Smiles Featured List for Fall of 2018! I would like to thank you all for your patience, and for your incredible submissions. I have a feeling that each and every one of the following books will soon be topping the charts!

For those who are unaware, I've taken a note from Wattpad and have created my own version of The Featured List to help bring attention to those otherwise undiscovered authors and their stories. The three most recent featured authors are promised spots, as well as our resident Featured Author of The Year (shout-out to Misty Hayes and her incredible vampire-thriller, The Outcasts!). The featured list is updated every three months!

Thank you all for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the following books as much as I have!

Our first pick is coming to you straight from a published author, Misty Hayes. After finding it's popularity on Wattpad, our resident Featured Author of The Year self published! This one is definitely living up to the hype!

A full review (spoilers and all) will be coming to the website this week, along with a catch-up feature so you can all get to know our author of the year!

Mystical relics. Powerful vampires. Strange allies. It's hell being a teenager. Larna Collins has never understood why her dad skipped out on her and her mother when she was twelve years old. Until then, he was a devoted and loving father. But six years later, during a renovation of her childhood home, she unearths her father's journal from under a dusty floorboard. According to his final entry before he left, he had recently visited a small parish in England. The entries draw her to this seemingly quaint village, which Larna discovers isn't as charming as its blood-craving inhabitants want her to believe, and she learns that she isn't the only one trying to track her father down. Could this explain her father's disappearance? Or was placing her in the center of danger her dad's master plan all along?

Our second featured novel is coming to you from our Featured Author of June 2018, Ana!

A bitter blizzard leaves Amelia Harris fighting for her life. But then the presence of a mysterious boy and what he knows makes her world one of danger and secrets...

A novel about love, danger and keeping your mouth zipped when it needs to be.

Our third pick is coming to you from our Featured Author of July 2018, Chelsea!

"Some things can't be taught

Feelings that can't be bought

Sorry I can't be caught

These are my Unheard Thoughts"

Fourth Featured Novel? Well if it isn't our very own Featured Author of August 2018, Erhun!

(I am utterly obsessed with this cover!)

"Listen Mr. Silent..." She said approaching me.

I looked at her expecting her to say something. She made sure our faces were close just so I'd be the only one to hear her. The smile on her face transformed into a smirk. This made me curious of what she was going to say, then she said it.

"I'm going to make you speak."

Dean Adams, 17, and has never spoken to anyone in Eastwood High. He's rich, has good grades, handsome but he never says 'Hi.'

Isabelle Colt, 17, she's loud, out going and tends to ask a lot of questions. She is the new girl in Eastwood High. She is placed as Dean's seat partner and because of her outgoing personality, she's determined to make Dean, the guy who has never spoken to anyone speak.

❛ And I meant everything I said that night- I will come back to life, but only for you. ❜

For our first non-featured-author pick you ask? Say hello to Kaye (@candykaye15)!!

When words flow like the ocean or the sea,

When winds blow and carries me along the realms of beauty.

It is indeed love that is calling me

where does this poetry would take me?

Our next pick comes from Shay Writes Smiles newcomer, Zoe (@ZRoseO15)!

He always said he'd come for me again one day, I was just hoping I'd never actually live to see it happen.

"It's time to open your eyes, little one" his voice gently brushes my earlobe but I still don't want to believe this is real, it can't be. I frequently have nightmares that I always wake up from, but this one is different. I don't think I can wake up this time.

"Look at me Blair" he demands.

"You're not real. This isn't real" I whisper through closed eyes.

"The more you fight it, the worse it will get" he coldly states. I choke back the dryness in my mouth as my eyes begrudgingly flutter open only to have them widen immediately. I look around and realize that I'm not even in my hotel room next to my physical body, I am standing in the middle of the street about three blocks away from where I fell asleep.

I don't know how I got here...but I know that I'm not alone.

Our next pick comes from one of our two flash-round entries, imaspellingerror (@xxoluomzxx)!

"Will you be my girlfriend" he asked me.

Well I thought it was me...

Eve Sanders was definitely not your average girl. There was no average face, average friends nor was there an average family.

It was just her, her twin sister and her best friend with a plan to take on senior year while they still had it.

But when her best friend and her sister start going out, her plans on the best senior year quickly go down the drain.

So will she just suck it all up and learn how to be a third wheel or will she find a way to have the best senior year ever. With or without her best friends.

Our tenth novel comes from the second of our flash-round entries, Erien Blackwood (@Erien_Blackwood)!

The Fell Throne.

The most powerful source of magic known to man.

A lost princess.

Ruin and treachery flows in the Empire that should've been hers to rule.

A rebel thief.

A woman battling the demons of her past as she tries to lead a handful of disheartened rebels against the Fell Queen.

A dark prophecy.

Foretelling a darkness that threatens to consume the soul of a Queen or the World.

A mismatched gang.

The fight for life begins as the darkness sets in and the fate of their world is in their hands.

Will they survive?

Our next pick you ask? Say hello to @tyragathers!!

I walk out my dorm building to the cafe. Just as I'm about to open the door I hear a person call out my name. I turn around to see the person jogging towards me.

Hey that person kind of looks like Jase.

Wait a minute... That is Jase.

"Jase?!" I ask.

"What the hell is wrong with you? Why would you just leave and not tell anyone?! And do you honestly think I wouldn't follow you?" Jase says.

I don't answer I just stand there like an idiot with wide eyes and an open mouth. Shock takes over my body and I begin to feel sick.

I left my hometown two days ago and traveled almost 8 states away. But standing right here in front of me is the person that I was running away from.

Our twelfth novel comes from Saloni (@-ignited)!

For all the time you had been wailing to get out of that prison, you never knew you had the keys to yourself.

For all the time you thought it couldn't have been darker, all you had to do was draw those curtains and let the light come.

For all the time you have been struggling to get out, you never knew you were the one blocking yourself and not someone else.

Our next pick comes from Maeve(@lostandfounde)!

Isabelle Beaumont is a young, intelligent girl living in a small French town. With her father as an inventor, she lives a fairly comfortable life - with one glaring exception: she doesn't remember anything that happened before her thirteenth birthday.

Adam Lancaster is a forgotten prince. With a castle overrun by thorny bushes, he lives as if he is in exile, accompanied by only a few of his trusted servants.

When Isabelle and Adam meet for the 'first' time, Isabelle realizes that perhaps it isn't really their first meeting - five years ago, she turned the prince to a beast, after all.

Closing out the list, we've got Jasmine Flores (@FoggySea)! with an iaward winning story!

"Different is good sometimes."

In the year 2130 nothing could surpass the most technological state in the world, California. A microchip, implanted into one's mind after graduation, limits a person's emotions, creativity, and intelligence; leaving the state helpless. Of course, there will always be a counter to a technical mind. An abstract one. Michael and his best friend Arthur will either cower or stand in the face of society's expectations, with the year span slimming before becoming high school graduates.

However, Michael is dealing with more than what meets the eye, trudging through his own internal life.
