SOMETHING MORE - CHAPTER 4
Next Chapter Will Be Posted on Friday, December 8th
I stopped on the landing, letting my ringtone fill my ears above the chatter around us. Wren nodded my way, silently allowing me to stop to take the phone call.
“There isn’t anyone on the balcony,” she called over her shoulder. “Take your time.”
I smiled, watching as the three made their way out into the sunny Paris day. We’d been here less that thirty-six hours, and already I was growing accustomed to the summer weather in Paris.
It’s going to be a bummer going back to Massachusetts for the fall.
“Hey mom.” I took a breath, managing to step aside just as a bellhop skirted by with a large suitcase in tow.
“Scarlett, thank goodness,” she sighed dramatically. “Elias has been trying to reach Jay since late last night.”
“What’s going on?”
She paused, the sound of her brushing through paperwork replacing her voice, “we’ve had to postpone our flight to Paris.”
“But you guys already postponed,” I noted.
I could practically see her scowling at me despite the nine hour time difference and the ocean in between us.
“Something’s come up,” she brushed my comment aside. “Elias is finishing up a very important case, and I’m flying up to Boston tonight to prepare the house for Wren and James once you all return home.”
“The house was fine before we left.”
My mother laughed, “the new house. Did I forget to mention that Elias and I have picked out a new estate?”
Of course my mother and stepfather would buy Wren and Jay a new house as a wedding gift.

I ignored her, ripping off another chunk of my toast and dunking it into the large vat of soup my mother had brought over for me.
“Nat,” her voice rang in my ears again.
An earbud smashed itself into my already sore ear, “why, Hanna?” I hissed at the feeling. “Dude, stop it.”
“Listen!” She urged. “This is the guy I made out with in college.”
“I thought you hated him,” I said, sniffling through my words.
“Oh I do,” she agreed emphatically. “But this song doesn’t make my ears bleed. So obviously you’ve got to listen.”
I rolled my eyes and sat back. Hanna wasn’t about to give this one up.
The music began to blare through the headphones, despite my cold, I could definitely hear the music coming from Hanna’s earbud. My face twisted up in distaste for only a second, and then, I heard it.
“This is Justin Bieber.”
“But better!” Hanna’s eyes lit up at the mention. “Trust me, in a week or two, you’ll be obsessed with this guy.”
I reached out and took her phone, letting my finger ghost over the screen, “what’s this guys’ name?”
“Patrick Neili,” Hanna answered. “He’s probably got an entourage too.”
Rolling over, I tried to pull on the thick red blanket Patrick had tossed onto my side of the bed the night before. Only, the idiot himself had started tugging on the other end.
“Patrick,” I whimpered, allowing my eyes to flutter open.
I tossed my gaze to the side, my eyes meeting his sleeping form. His hair was ruffled from our equally rough night of sleep and his five o'clock shadow was setting in.
To make matters worse, he still looked drunk… even if he was asleep.
“Hey idiot,” I prodded, poking him in the shoulder.
THE DISTANCE THEORY - CHAPTER 6
Next Chapter Will Be Posted on Sunday, December 10th
I knew deep down that Eli had forced himself to go on this little adventure with me. Never in a million years would he have gone purely on will. Though I’m sure he had questions, or even concerns about the people he’s living with, it’d be nice to know that this was the first step to getting back on the right path with him.
“My parents died,” he started, pushing a stray piece of lettuce onto the mustard yellow wobbly table. The old dinner he had directed me to was nearly empty, excluding myself, Eli, and a few construction workers that had stumbled in here from down the street. “Lewis mentioned that your mom passed away.”
I nodded, stirring my straw around in my tall glass of water. The sound of the ice clinking against the plastic cup was occupying the silence that had stayed between us since our fight. “She died about six months after I was born. I was premature because the cancer was killing her so fast. They induced labor.”
Eli winced at the mention, “I’m sorry, Bree.”
“It’s okay,” I shook my head. “I never knew her, but with how much my dad talked about her, I feel like I did? I think it would have hurt more to have known her only to have her pass when I was little.”
Eli gave me a half smile, passing me a french fry when he did. “Hate to say I agree with you.”
TIDES - COMING SOON
Coming 2018
"Chance Dabney?" Kyle nearly spit his food with the mention.
Wiping his mouth with the abnormally red napkin, he honed in on my hand as I picked up my pencil once again. "What do you think he's doing back?"
Shaking my head, I glanced up from my mid-century textbook to meet his gaze. "I don't know. But he's in my history class."
"So he flunked out before he left?" A sly smile appeared on his already chocolate stained lips. "Keep an eye on him for me? I never found out why he disappeared."
"No one knows why, Kyle," I reminded him. "I think he'd like to keep it that way."
That's all for this week! Let me know what you guys thought and if there's anything you'd like to see next time!
